Textile Tours and Workshops

Welcome, come and create.

You can. Everyone can. | Art and Craft Village, Siljansnäs.

In the heart of Dalarna province, in central Sweden, the doors are open to the Art and Craft Village, Siljansnäs where there is a fantastic combination of traditional handwork and free expression.

Are you more than the usual tourist, just looking? If so, our taster workshops in the studios of Siljansnäs could be perfect for you! Enjoy a unique experience at this wonderful creative retreat!

What is a taster?

A taste of something creative - local art, handwork, environment, culture or food.

A taster is a half day of creating, together with your artist/craftworker. The visitor’s creativity stands central to creating with the women of TjugoSomSkapa (Twenty Who Create). The tasters are designed to suit everyone from beginner level all the way through to the more experienced. Small groups ensure individual one-on-one attention, and our Sweden Tour combines multiple half-day tasters, so you can try more than one craft.

There is something for everyone:

Saori Weaving

Discover your hidden creativity with yarn, in a free-hand weaving workshop with weaving teacher, Kirsi Frimanson. In Saori weaving there are no rules. After a few simple instructions, you can start creating on the loom and you can weave a wall hanging or cushion cover to take home with you in just a couple of hours. The Saori philosophy emphasises creator joy and curiosity. Unleash your creativity and create with no requirements and enjoy a coffee break in the garden in fine weather. Our looms and weaving accessories are designed for simplicity and accessibility, all of which can be expressed through weaving regardless of age or physical / intellectual capacity.

Swedish Baking

Bake the traditional Bakubullar (Bakubuns) with bakers Jessica and Sabina Holding in a wood fired oven using Granny Karina’s 100 year old recipe in the bake house beside Siljansnäs Church. Here you can bake in the old way making tasty buns and tunnbröd (pictured above). Every village has its own recipes which were baked for important occasions like weddings, Christmas and Midsummer. The dough is kneaded until it is silky smooth. It rises, is rolled out, pricked, and baked beside the glowing embers. You leave the bake house with the bread under your arm and rosy cheeks!
